Biography

Family
I was born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina in 1982 to William Earl, a Senior Drill Sergeant in the Army, and Shirley Luvon, a Homemaker. Born the sixth child toward the end of my father’s career, I lived in Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, and Fort Devens before my parents settled in Lunenburg in 1993 with my sister and I — the last two kids remaining in the house.

My mother and father’s families moved from Mississippi and North Carolina, respectively, to Boston in 1957 and 1959 to escape the segregation that permeated our southern states. Over a couple years, my grandparents, their brothers and sisters, and all of their children moved to Boston with the hope of providing my parents, aunts, and uncles a better opportunity.

While my mother sang in the church her uncles preached at and excelled in school, my father didn’t much enjoy the city. Instead of regularly attending school in Wake Forest, he spent many years growing and drying tobacco and raising livestock with his father and brothers. In 1966 he voluntarily enlisted in the Army as an Airborne Infantryman and served in Vietnam and Grenada. He retired as a Master Sergeant with 26 years of service, and earned two college degrees along the way. He went on to have a second career for 19 years as a counselor for teenagers in crisis.

My mother started her career at 35 when I started school. She continued her education, graduated from college, and pursued a career in business and finance. While maintaining our household and raising us kids, she also worked tirelessly throughout my childhood as a missionary in the US and abroad. She is now a Christian Evangelist in Memphis, TN.

My parents grew up in a racially divided nation, and taught their children to be mindful of the prejudices and bias that we may encounter. They encouraged us to be the best versions of ourselves, to be humble, respect others, and to have faith in the Almighty.

I married my life partner, Ezra, in 2017 and we reside in Lunenburg with our Nigerian Dwarf goats: Bonnie, Philip, Icarus and Otis.

I joined the Army in May, 1999 and completed Basic Training between my junior and Senior years of high school. I deployed from 2003 – 2004 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Throughout my career as a Soldier I held four Military Occupational Specialties: medical administration, legal administration, military police, and human resources. I’ve completed trainings for and have held leadership positions as a team leader, platoon leader, executive officer, safety officer, logistics officer, operations office, unit movement officer, and physical security officer. I hold a Bachelor’s of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Fitchburg State University.

My civilian career as a property professional has benefited from having such a strong family foundation; being educated in Lunenburg and at Fitchburg State; being trained in team building, organizational management, and the Military Decision Making Process; and having a breadth of professional and personal experiences in 42 states and 14 countries over the last 21 years.
